Rats avoid anything new in their environment. That’s one reason is so critical that a professional pest control operator help eliminate these extremely destructive pests.
Rat Control:
Rats are one of the most common pests that we deal with at Pete’s Pest Control. They’re attracted to food sources like garbage cans and pantries, and they can quickly reproduce, which makes them difficult to get rid of once they’ve taken up residence in your home or business. Our rat control service will eliminate all the rats in your building and seal up any entry points they may have used to get in. We also offer a quarterly maintenance program to help keep rats away for good.
Mice Control:
Mice are another common pest we deal with. Like rats, they’re attracted to food sources and can reproduce quickly. They can also carry diseases, so getting rid of them as soon as possible is important if you spot them in your home or business. Once inside, mice will gnaw on electrical wires, lumber, books, furniture, food packaging – about anything they can get their teeth on. In addition to the destruction they cause, rats pose a serious health risk. They are known carriers of diseases like typhus, salmonella, and hantavirus. Sounds pretty disgusting and cringe right? Yes it’s important to take care of them before they can affect you or your pet’s health.
Diseases Associated with Rodents
Rodents carry disease and fleas and leave waste. Wild and domestic rodents have been reported to harbor and spread as many as 200 human pathogens. Rodents, primarily the harmless-looking deer mouse and pack rats, can spread the potentially deadly hantavirus and arenavirus. Hantavirus was first identified when soldiers in the Korean War fell ill with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). Hantavirus is contracted primarily by inhaling airborne particles from rodent droppings, urine or saliva left by infected rodents or through direct contact with infected rodents.
The Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), while relatively rare, kills nearly half the people who develop it. After suffering from flu-like symptoms, victims of lethal cases of HPS die quickly from severe lung damage.
